Preparations for the upcoming exercises in Romania were held from February 1-5 in Bucharest. Nordisk Sikkerhet expert Pavel Tishakov attended these meetings with experts from the International Safety Research (ISR), Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority (NRPA), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Institut de radioprotection et de sûreté nucléaire (ISRN), and several Romanian agencies. Nordisk Sikkerhet and ISR facilitated discussions between the participating Romanian and international organizations to establish roles, responsibilities, and expectations for the various exercise activities, which are planned to take place in October 2016.
The Valahia-2016 exercise will provide Romanian emergency response personnel an opportunity to train under realistic conditions, improve their response capabilities, and establish clear roles for various local, national, and international agencies in the event of an emergency.
Meeting participants identified the main objectives of the exercise, as well as the key players for the various activities in the exercise. They reviewed potential constraints as well as roles and responsibilities of each participating organization. Nordisk Sikkerhet, operating as a subcontractor of International Safety Research, will assist in the planning and preparation of the exercise.
The next planning meeting for "Valahia-2016" is scheduled for April.
