Nordisk Sikkerhet AS visits SBGS Mukachyvskyi border detachment in Ukraine
Published: 25 April 2016
On 20 April a delegation of experts from Nordisk Sikkerhet visited the Mukachyvskyi border detachment of the State Board Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS). The visit included meetings at detachment headquarters in Mukachevo and visits to the Kosyno and Dzvinkove border crossings on the Ukrainian border with Hungary.
While at Mukachevo, Nordisk Sikkerhet staff updated SBGS regional administrators on the status of the current project. They also discussed the general situation in the region, ongoing issues and needs, and the potential for future projects between the two organizations. The delegation then visited the Kosyno and Dzvinkove border crossings, where they met with local SBGS staff and examined various radiological and nuclear material detection capabilities at both sites. They were also able to have a discussion with Hungarian border authorities about current nonproliferation capabilities on the Hungarian side of the border.
The visit was an excellent opportunity for Nordisk Sikkerhet experts to better understand the exact needs of the border checkpoints and SBGS personnel in the Mukachevo region. Such site visits help Nordisk Sikkerhet to ensure its projects take into account existing capabilities at SBGS and also do not overlap with aspects of other international technical assistance efforts in the region. The delegation was pleased to have time to review specific details of current and future projects with SBGS staff working on the ground. Following this successful visit, Nordisk Sikkerhet looks forward to continued cooperation on the implementation of the existing project with SBGS, as well as the development of new projects in the future.
